It could be that I'm finally benefiting from the years of experience, but I have to say I'm really impressed at the flat response and clarity of these things... especially for the price.
Packing was very good. Both speakers were in their own boxes and both boxes were in a larger box. Neither speakers were damaged or scratched.
5 years ago I was just getting into music production / mixing. I've progressed a lot in that timeframe but I'm no pro.
For starters one of the speakers died a month or two ago. The amp for the woofer has an issue, the tweeter works fine.
These aren't good for mixing, clarity and discement of frequencies is more difficult on these speakers than I'd expect for studio monitors.
If you just want to listen to some edm, buy these. If you need to mix, look elsewhere.
Seems my issue with the low end giving out is fairly common. Just a heads up

Whenever I need to buy something (e.g., speakers, but anything, everything) I usually do a lot of research before I commit to buying one (brand or unit) over the other...
This time, (and in this price range) it eventually came down to a tossup between the Yamaha HS5s ($250 CAD each) and the KRK Rockit 5s ($210 CAD each).
I was going to get the Yamaha HS5s BUT my setup would have them right up against a wall and the HS5s have rear bass ports... Whereas the Rockit 5s have front-ported bass ports.
After I ordered the KRKs, and they were on the way, I found another video of someone doing a wonderful job at comparing these very two speakers.
At first, though, I thought it may have been a stupid joke, or something, because, for the first half of the video, when he would switch between the speakers, I could not distinguish ANY difference in the sound or the sound quality, whatsoever. By the end of the video, however, I WAS... and the KRKs came out on top! The HS5s did not have enough bass (for my liking).
The KRKs came... WOW!!!
Extremely impressed and pleased with these speakers!
Both the build quality and sound quality are excellent.
The volume knob on the speaker has about 40 physical 'notches' which are marked from -30dB to +6dB... and with the audio signals "gain staged" going into these speakers 5 notches from the bottom was LOUD listening (for this 13' x 15' room)!
Awesome speakers!
